Half Life Sound Selector Turtorial

The Alien Breeder is an fun server, so let's make our own fun sounds!

1. Sounds format
HLSS using *.wav files at 16 Bit (CD), 8000Hz, Mono

If you don't know how to convert sounds: We need dBPowerAmp (download). After install and system reboot - click you sound with right mouse button and select "Convert to..." option.

Now you should see dBPowerAmp window, all options must look like below:

Dont forget about selecting an output folder :P
Now click Convert button.

2. Config
Put this lines to your config file (Steam\steamapps\nick\half-life\ns\config.cfg):
unbind f11
alias sound "soundon"
alias soundon "voice_inputfromfile 1; voice_loopback 1; +voicerecord; alias sound soundoff"
alias soundoff "voice_inputfromfile 0; voice_loopback 0; -voicerecord; alias sound soundon"
bind "f11" "sound"
Now you sound playing button is F11

3. HLSS
Half-Life Sound Selector (download) is very easy to use. Unpack archive, run HLSS. This is main window:

Click Options menu - you must select your NS folder, example (for CS xD):

Click OK.

Now we must add our sounds. Click + button, select sound and make an shortcut:

When you add all your sounds - click File -> Save as, and save your list

4. In-game
When you are on server - click any shortcut that you have created earlier (you should see info on top of your screen), then F11 - you should hear you sound!

If you have any problems, ideas or sounds - put it on this topic...
Sorry agin for my english, tell me about any mistakes :]

No offence, but you've pretty much copy and pasted the 1st (or 2nd?) link when googling 'hlss'.

Also, I doubt the players/admins will much appreciate the abundance of people who will now spam music all day long.

well, you can "mute" the players. so i wouldnt see a that big problem in it.

on the other side, alot of ppl are lazy, they wont do that soundthing anyways

Strange, but my player doesn't work too...

OK, i don't have those lines in my config - it was autodeleted. So, add it to autoexec.cfg (Counter-Strike supports it, but i dont know nothing about NS support), or userconfig.cfg (last line of config file = exec userconfig.cfg). It should work now...
