Really low fps

I know this is kinda old, but I guess NS isn't the only game where one can meet this problem: My fps is amazingly low (below 20 sometimes) once I join a team in a game. In the RR it's arround 50, and in menu it's 90.

Has anyone any clue how to solve that problem?
Because I think it could save me A LOT of deaths

hi ze, long not seen.

-

I don think you didnt updated your Drivers.

Thats why i say its Steam.

Check your Connection Settings of steam.

At the Steam window click:

- (File) / Settings / Downloads (Approximate speed of your Internet Connection )

Or at the icon next to your clock, Right Click - Settings.

Post some details about your PC, drivers, ... or just buy state of the art hardware

I'm running on a rather old
Intel Celeron 2.8 GhZ,
1 or 2 GB Ram (I'm on my laptop now, so not certain what type and how much exactely)
ATI Radeon x1300, 512 mb card.
Internet I have no clue about,
Windowns XP sp2.

I always keep my drivers up to date, so it would surprise me if that's the problem.
I'll try what Jerimis suggested once my PC is done defragmenting (I hope that helps as well, even though I just did it a few days ago).

Try to lower your desktop and game resolution. Lowpoly models, change config to low model rendering. Use open-gl not direct-3d for HL1 games. Try out a default game config before change anything. New drivers installed? Maybe overclocking can help (if possible with celerons).

If you run your pc with at least 1gb there is no way defragmenting you hdd can bring you better or more fps in hl based games. Maybe faster loading for the engine and maps but when its done loading it depends on other parts like gfx, ram, cpu, ...

Also check your anti-virus anti-maleware solution and turn any system-memory watch-tools during playing off. It's just a single core low-end cleleron cpu, help him doing his job

NO!
I don't like celeron! :P
The only reason I bought it 4 years ago or whenever I did was that it was cheap, but good (good for 2003 standards or whenever I bought it).
Just put me resolution down to the tiny small 1280*1024. Used 1600*1200 before that

Ingame I use 1024*768, but I guess I can put it down to the standards of cyber-hell: 800*600, 4 colores, 2D :P

I have a little idea that it might be Norten's fault that my FPS is so low.
I'll investigate that further!
