UFO Alien Invasion - a free and open source game

I found a nice free and open source game. UFO Alien Invasion isn't new but it is new for me and under this circumstances that this game is free and open source i decided to post it here.

Some scenarios are support multiplayer action 1 on 1, 2 on 2, ... and coop as well. Client and server versions are both available for Windows and Linux.

General:

UFO: ALIEN INVASION is a strategy game featuring tactical combat against hostile alien forces which are about to infiltrate earth at this very moment. You are in command of a small special unit which has been founded to face the alien strike force. To be successful on the long run, you will also have to have a research team study the aliens and their technologies in order to learn as much as possible about their technology, their goals and the aliens themselves.

'UFO: Alien Invasion' is heavily inspired by the 'X-COM' series by Mythos and Microprose. The first game of the series, 'UFO DEFENSE', became a classic and, in our honest opinion, is one of the best games ever made.
'UFO: Alien Invasion' is neither a sequel nor a remake of 'UFO DEFENSE' - we simply had the urge to create a similar strategy game, which will hopefully be as entertaining as the original was for the players (and for the developers, of course).

Gameplay:

The game is turn-based. Well, this might sound somewhat old school now, but trust us: turn-based games are fun!
Each member of your squad has a limited number so called "time units" each round, which are consumed when you order the unit to walk, to fire a weapon or to perform any of the other miscellaneous actions. When all your forces are out of time units, the alien's turn starts. In addition to eliminating as many enemies as possible, your mission is to minimize civilian casualties as well as to acquire parts of the advanced alien technology.
Once you've acquired sufficient samples of the unknown technology, your research labs will be able to reproduce the alien weapons and devices in order to use them against their original creators.

Game Engine:

The game engine is based on a heavily modified version of ID's Quake2 Engine. This doesn't imply that 'UFO: Alien Invasion' is a mod or a total conversion at all! No, 'UFO: AI' is a stand-alone game which doesn't require Quake2 or any similar program to run. Our self-developed game engine is featuring up-to-date OpenGL graphics and special effects, increased texture resolution, hardware accelerated clipping of map layers to toggle between floors, a new animation system for player models, a stunning AI and a few other gimmicks.

Multiplayer support:

You can play UFO: ALIEN INVASION with your friends via LAN or Internet. One player takes the role of the human special squad while the other is in control of the alien invaders. Co-op team play with multiple players on both sides is also supported for up to three teams on each side (6 players total).

The game is about 170 MB
There is a Tutorial, but only pictures, no missions or somethin, but for 170mb, i think thats better than nothin.

illl try the solo/multiplayerpart later n tell you my opinion

€dit:
the turn based thing is a little... stupid :/
specially when you wanna shoot on the enemy and dont got any "actions" left, but you stand right next to the enemy...

Ah, good ol' UFO/X-Com. I remember that. The "Doom" of tactical simulators. I'm still looking forward for Project Xenocide being released.

Turn-based stupid? Hardly. The obvious solution if you run out of action points next to an alien would be to, I dunno, not use up all your action points so that you end up next to an alien.

Erm, yes, you are supposed to move less than what is possible unless you want to end up in bad situations. You are given a number of action points to spend on all the things you want to do. If you want to shoot, then don't use them for moving. If you save a few points at the end of your round, you may even get interrupts during the enemy's turn if your soldier has good reactions. It's a tactical game. Using some amount of tactics (that doesn't necessarily involve charging head-on into unknown opposition) to play it seems fairly reasonable.

You shouldn't be running into aliens anyway. Out in the open, use AoE weapons (explosives) from a safe spot or snipe aliens with your more accurate soldiers. In buildings and UFOs, move slowly to save action points for interrupts, cover all entrances to the room you're in, use heavy explosives to open up alternate entrances in walls or floors, and use grenades to clear rooms before you move in with soldiers to mop up any survivors.

That is, of course, if this game plays like UFO/X-Com. If it doesn't, download that instead. It's as close to abandonware as it gets without being shareware.
