Tips for players

anyone have any tips for other players on how to play more efficiently, or just all around how to play better with any alien class or marine, post here. i know i don't know all i should, cause as an alien, i'm always rushing, and getting killed, always hard for me getting frags as an alien.

a good tip for gorges, is don't put offence towers too close to a corner as marines love to spam grenades of course, but make the marines hafta to turn the corner to take em out and put them selves in harm's way. but put all towers maybe 10-20 feet from a corner, so they don't take damage from spamming nades, but they can still attack when a marine turns the corner.

also, gorges should not spam movement towers, as they are mostly a waste of res. gorges should put a movement tower only so far down the line, usually next to a punch of offence and defence towers, so people can get to the hive easier for repairs.

that's all i can think of for know. please post any tips you can think of, i'm sure it will help the community.

In siege maps, just blink through the door as soon as it opens and herras the marines at base ... killing armory or armslabs gives a huge advantage.
When they start herrassing you, fall back (swatting any marines in the process) and just start smashing RT's.

As a skulk, make great use of leap ... leap at a marine, switch to bite and to your own skills/good sences, bite to kill or leap out of the way of th barrel of a gun.

Bunny hopping is realy difficult for aliens, wall strafing is more effective then a couple of good hops.

what i wanna know if how to effectively use fades, as i always die in seconds, and i can never make good use of it.

biggest tip ever for both marines and aliens: the Zerg Rush!

the key to winning is push in full force in numbers, running away or holding one spot loses the game for ya.

i was playing earlier and twices the marines pushed us aliens back all the way to the hives, and the hives were dead 1 minute before siege doors opened.

oh, and where can i find some decent NS sprays at?

if siege room opens:

all fades and lerks have to rush siege room. onos must destroy arms lap as fast as possible. AFTER arms lap, amory, and after amory the rest (if you not die :P )

most time i play on siege map i see the alien team destroying the main base and only 1 or 2 aliens attac siege room. if the aliens in siege room aren't godlike, aliens loose.

As a fade, dont fly towards more then 2 fully equiped marines.
If you're real good at it, blink at a marine, hack&slash and from your point of view either kill the marine or blink to the ceiling and back to finish the job or repeat the precess.

On siege (especially siege_007) maps, either blink through as a fade, walk through as a cloaked skulk, or fly through as a lerk. If you go as a lerk, bring a gorge with you (look at the gorge while close to it and press your use key) so you can build OCs and DCs in the jetpack room, which, if done correctly, doooooms the marines!

My personal opinion..

Best skulk upgrades:
Carapace, silence, focus

Best gorge upgrades:
Regeneration, celerity, scent of fear, but gorge upgrades really depend on situation

Best lerk upgrades:
Carapace, celerity, focus(scent of fear, if you use spores much, but parasites do the job usually)

Best fade upgrades:
Carapace, celerity, focus

Best onos upgrades:
Regeneration, celerity, focus

Nothing saves OCs from gl spam. Especially from HAs with GL. You can build them at high places, its hard to aim there with GL. At least harder than aiming at a normall built OC. When i build OCs i use the same method, few metres from corner but still in range.

Well shit rines save ocs from gl spam, just played a siege map (i forget which one, theres too many, its the one with the changeable water at the door). i was comming, i gave my team HA, Weld GL and weapons two quickly, assuming theyd get the idea and GL spam the OC wall quickly, but no, we go on to lose the game in spectacular style with no less than 6 onoses rushing us. nto to mention 3 of my team never left the base once and just whined for weapons. We didnt stand a chance anyway because the n00bs ejected the first comm early on.

1. Don't load LMG ammo on siege map. Later You will see that it's pointless.
2. TRUST YOUR COMMANDER. If he is good, You will win, if not, follow his orders to the end.
3. If You think You need something, stand in base and call for equipment by shortcuts, for
4. example: 'HMG JP' or 'HA SG WLD'. If You dont get it in 15 sec, load LMG and go to PG (teleport)
5. If You need health in base, load ammo until Your health is restored.
6. If You are unsure what to do, call for order (right mouse button, then left and up)
7. When You build or weld - duck (SIT)! More players can build/weld this way (standing on eachother)
8. Load HMG/SG/GL ammo from the armory at front. Weld teammates and weld Your feet!

I also have a pack of INCOMING messages. Wrote it in 10 minutes. Then spent90 minutes to make it work on servers that have scripting disabled :roll:
But was worth it.

I bound on keypad it so kp_enter is tall and thin like a fade, kp_ins is wide like an onos, kp_del is for lerk.
I press f.e. 4, enter (on keypad) and there it comes like:
say_team 4 FADES INCOMING!!!!

Does anyone have some scripting ideas?

More basics:
- build admory as the first one, then RTs, IP, stuff like that.
- NS is about teamplay, trust Your commander, if he is good he will guide You to the victory. However, if the other team is better, he can have trouble. Dont make more trouble: listen to orders, go to wp, he's doing his best to make You win. If You don't listen, it is a matter of luck to win or not... Rest of the team will hate You for that. You want to be hated? :evil: No? Then listen to the COMM's orders.
- dont rush to the doors. RTs are extreamly importnant, if You rush, comm will not place TF at doors when You get there, You wuill have to wait for others anyway. They will build longer without You, so it will be slower. Go with Your team, after Your waypoints.
- ask for waypoints, COMM can think that You know to do (but most players dont know). If You ask for a WP (just f.e. say_team Comm where should I go now?).
- dont beg for a GL. GL is the worst weapon ever. fade kills You, skulk kills You, lerk kills You, Onos eats You. If You are lucky, You can kill a gorge with it. Why? Because GL is good against buildings, not aliens. HMG is the best if You want to kill aliens. SG is universal - it kills aliens not so bad, and it kills buildings (nasty OCs) without a larger problem.
- when You weld HA and it is being hit by a few OCs, f.e. he is killing it with a GL (it takes time), he will not die probably. Welding is awesome, two HAs can kill almost any amount of OCs if they weld theirselves. They can kill many other things also. A team of 3-4 HAs (when they play properly), is a horrible enemy for aliens. They are scared and I must say most of the times they are dead in next 2 minutes Cover Your mates, to gain a next FRAG is not the goal of this game. Teamplay. You cover my ass, I cover Yours. You reload, I cover, I reload, You cover. If You have 0 ammo in Your HMG and I have some of it, I give You mine (full loaded) and You give me Yours, I load it and now we both can shoot. If I fly a JP and see onos chasing You, I pick You up and save Your ass from an onos stomach. This is the goal of the game. Teamplay.
Err... Where was I? Ah.
- It is sometimes worth to die, for a good of the team. Consider it for a while.

I thought I told You to consider!! Take another moment please. Think about an example

- when You are told to defend, defend. Dont rush. Listen to Your commander. Why? For example he will have HA in seconds, if You go now, You will loose weapons as he will be giving out HAs. Then You will wait for weapons, aliens will breach the front and the game is nearly lost. Another example: he knows that the alien team is so good and strong that You have no chance in attacking, it is just a waste of res, so he tells You to defend. Map could be also very hard to push aliens in. There can be a vent behind that aliens can use to get in Your base so You have to hold front in the line chosen by commander, not any other.
- some commanders (me f.e.) give a groups of players diffrend orders. If You see a waypoint near You, better go (and f.e. build) because he had could chosen just You for this job, and rest of the team has another waypoint. Trust that waypoint is right place to go, if You have doublts, ASK. He will not give all waypoints/weapons/medpacks/RTs at the time. One commander, 14 players. It is impossible. he will try as hard as he can. You can remind him sometime about upgrades or what.
- if You f.e. died near pg, dont take new weapon from base. It costs. Instead go pg and pick up the weapon, go armory and load the weapon. Recycled weapon is 15 res saved. It is a jetpack for example. Or a distress beacon. 2 weapons from "recycled back" is worth an lvl2 upgrade for the whole team.
- use shortcuts:
HA - Heavy Armor
JP - Jet Pack
------------------
SG - ShotGun
HMG - Heavy Machine Gun
GL - Grenade Launcher
WLD - Welder
- If You don't need (don't use) welders and our commanders keeps giving it to You, because he thinks You are skillfull enough to use it, TELL HIM. He will save 5 res on each marine then. If anyone needs welder then, he shall yell: COMM, WLD IN BASE
- don't say like that "COMM I NEED SOME EQUIPEMENT AT BASE IMIDIETLY!!!!!!". It floods his screen.
don't say that too "JP JP JP JP JP JP JP JP JP JP JP JP!!!!!". It floods his screen also.
- Use Your every possible opportunity to overrun aliens! If You see them weakened, attack! If You see armless gorge, kill it, it's 10 res worth. Kill their RTs. Make traps: when You see fade hunting RTs, camp with a friend and trap him in the res room so he would have to pass one of You to get out. As You both have a HMG it could be hard for a fade to do. He might die - and that's the point, 50 res lost by aliens, a few gained by Your team (1-3 exacly, random amount I think).

If anyone interested, I might try to write more, but I think I will be flooded with "OMFG Reef are you insane!?" messages, as everyone will see this message
